Osservatore romano
Osservatore Romano is a Quotidien Italian evening in (the shortly after its publication), published by the official service of information of the the Vatican.
Apart from the daily Italian edition, several teams select and translate the articles and news of the original edition, in order to carry out editions Hebdomadaire S in various languages:
- German (since 1971),
- English (since 1968),
- Spanish (since 1969),
- French (since 1949),
- Italian (since 1950),
- Portuguese (since 1970).
There exists also an edition Mensuel in Polish, since 1980.
The first number of Osservatore Romano is appeared on July 1st 1861. The creation of the Journal answered the need then for defending the position of the the Holy See at the time when the Papal States had just lost essence them temporal power. The currency of the newspaper is: “Unicuique suum not praevalebunt” that one can translate by “with each one it his, they will not prevail” .
According to the vaticanist Sandro Magister, Osservatore Romano is nothing any more but the shade of its last glory. In that, it reflects the difficulties lived by the pontifical Conseil for the social communications.
