Order of the Knights of Rizal

The Ordre of the Knights of Rizal was created in 1916 with an aim of continuing and of taking as a starting point the work, the philosophy and the lesson of Doctor Jose Rizal. Based with Manila, the Filipino and recognized by a Filipino legislative charter under the “republic act 646”, the order has 180 chapters in Philippines and 60 in the world (in the USA, in Canada, in Australia, in Europe - mainly in Spain, Germany, Belgium and France, country in which Jose Rizal continued her studies and was in load various departments of universities -).

The order is with vocation civic, patriotic and cultural, not partisane, not nun and nonsectarian and invites its members to encourage the development and the diffusion of the culture and teaching, all the forms of art and expression, the works philosophical, the research, the good general being, the humanitarian actions and caritative, thus continuing the work and the philosophy of Doctor Jose Rizal.

History about the Knights of Rizal.

Since 1911, a group of men decides, under the direction of the colonel Antonio C. Torres, to commemorate the execution of the national hero of Philippines, Dr. Jose Rizal. During these celebrations, the founders opened the ceremonies while ravelling on their mountings, reminiscence of the Chevaleresque tradition of the honors returned to a man whose life was exemplary.

In 1916, it decided to formalize their organization by creating an association called " Orden de Caballeros de Rizal". Colonel Torres, who had been chief of the police force of Manila, was the first supreme commander.

In 1951, the Supreme council of the Order created a committee of legislation charged to develop the structure of this one, and his official recognition by the Filipino government, which was made on June 14th, 1951 by the act of law 646 of the Republic, instituting the Order of the Knights of Rizal as Ordre civic, patriotic, cultural, nonin favor and nonsectarian.

Goals and objectives of the Order.

General objectives

  • To study and put into practice the lesson and the philosophy of Dr. Jose Rizal as regards respect of the human being, human rights, justice, and individual freedom.
  • To show the example by its control and to cause in its entourage the personal development, the teaching and the philosophy of respect of the great values and freedom among all the classes of the company.
  • To support among the Knights the spirit of lit patriotism, justice as well as the basic principles of the Knighthood;
  • To develop a perfect union among the brothers Knights in the respect of the memory of Dr. Jose P. Rizal; and;
  • To organize and hold of the programs commemorative of the birth and the martyrdom of Rizal. (Dryness 2, R. A., No 646)

Specific objectives

  • To study and diffuse the ideals of respect and justice, the lesson, the philosophy and the human values taught by Rizal, particularly with youth;
  • To organize chapters to undertake such work programmes which will support individual engagement with the Rizalien idealism and which will encourage the personal participation of each one in the contemporary problems of the company and the nation;
  • To help to develop the character of youth in the formation with the citizenship, the respect of the democratic principles, enlightened nationalism like with the services being devoted to its country and its people.
  • Each member of the order must be informed objectives of the Knights of Rizal.
  • To know and follow the objectives of the order must become an ideal for each knight.
