Optima (type of vine)

The optimum is a Cépage tank German of white grapes.

Origin and geographical distribution

The optimum is obtaining year 1933 of Peter Morio and Bernhard Husfeld by crossing (Silvaner X Riesling) X Müller-Thurgau in the installations of the Institut für Rebenzüchtung Geilweilerhof in Siebeldingen (Palatinat) in Germany. The type of vine belongs to the list of the type of vine classifications for the production of wine following Article 20 of payment (EC) n° 1227/200.

The type of vine is authorized in many Länder in Germany. The planted surface is in regression passing of 349 hectares in 1994 to 107 hectares in 2004.

Plantations are known in Austria, with the Brésil, the Canada, in Great Britain, Suisse, Hungary and South Africa.

Farming aptitudes

Maturity is of first late time: 5 - 6 days after the chasselas.

Technological potential

The bunches are average and the bays are of small size. The bunch is compact. The type of vine is of good strength but of a low productivity. The type of vine fears the gray Pourriture and the Oïdium.
