Operation chaos

The operation CHAOS is a project of espionage led to the the United States and directed by the CIA

It starts with the projects Resistance and Merrimac charged, respectively, identifying the opponents with the foreign Politics American, in particular that concerning the Guerre of Vietnam, and with supervising the related public demonstrations.

It is installation under the President of the United States Lyndon Johnson then reinforced by her successor, Richard Nixon, in 1969. These two projects then form the operation CHAOS which aims at the professors and the students, but also the Gauchiste S and, more generally, very opposing to the war of Vietnam. The average employees are thus the electronic monitoring, the Perquisition S, burglings, the settings on listening, in particular. In addition, and in a way sometimes more subtle, the CIA engages, enter others, of the operations of discredit, confusion, Désinformation and manages to assemble certain anti-war groups the ones against the others.

The CIA is forced to put a term at this operation when, following the Watergate, the NewYork Times gives a report on part of these activities.

The commissions Church and Rockfeller revealed that the CIA had information on approximately 13.000 individuals, including 7.000 American citizens and 1.000 American organizations
