Open

In Sport, a “open” tournament is a tournament “open to all”. The origin is simple to explain: the term comes from an English verb “open to” which means to open.

In Badminton for example, the open one of France is an international tournament in which do not take part only of the French, but of the players of all the countries.

In Tennis, the “open” concept is born in 1968, with the opening of the tournaments to the professional players and amateurs, until there separate in two distinct groups.

In Cyclisme on track, it is in 1992 that it was decided to remove the distinction between professional runners amateurs and runners to lead to only one competition known as “open”. One created at the same time competitions for the young people of less than 25 years. This new organization seemed more adapted to the economic conditions of life of the runners amateurs which were frequently of false amateurs (in particular in the European Eastern European countries).
