Onslaught

Structure

In the American edition, the history of Onslaugth is distributed between a prolog, phase 1, phase 2, impact 1, impact 2, and the epilog.

The French edition adopted a finer cutting: phases 1 to 11, and impact from 1 to 4. " phases" are the episodes telling the saga of Onslaught strictly speaking. " impacts" episodes where the heroes treat the secondary consequences of the acts of Onslaught.

Unfolding of the crossover

; ; First steps Bishop came from a future where X-Men are all fallen with the combat because of a traitor, except Gambit. Bishop suspects Gambit of being the traitor himself. But X-Men cannot which measurement take vis-a-vis the history of Bishop. Itself recognized that one cannot punish Gambit if it does not have still not betrayed.

Well later, the Plague was found embanked, able only to pronounce the name of its attacker: Onslaught. But although it knows which was Onslaught, the traumatism empéchait it to say some more. In the same way, of the computers of the Sentinelles program were stolen, the name " Onslaught" being left on the walls. Four X-Men were attacked by the Post mutant, which said " herald of Onslaught". They had all the sorrows to overcome it, Post having a fraction of the power of Onslaught. Later, Post attacked the Cable mutant. This one was overcome but Post, remembering that it owed the life in Cable, refused to kill it in spite of the order of Onslaught.

; ; Phase 1 Onslaught contacts Jean Grey télépathiquement, trying to convince it to join it. She refuses, and she does not obtain other information only the warning of the arrival of Onslaught. Of return to the Xavier hotel, Jean is requested by the Plague to find in his memories the true identity of Onslaught. Terrified by what she discovers, she advises with the Plague to flee. But the Plague is stopped in its escape by Xavier. This one reveals its colossal appearance: it is Onslaught. It tears off its ruby with the Plague and locks up the spirit of this last in the jewel. Then Xavier convenes his X-Men in meeting. Jean does not reveal with his fellow-members the secrecy of Xavier, to try more. Xavier their advertisement which they must take the control of the world to protect the mutants. They refuse this line worthy of Magneto. Xavier reveals his apprence of Onslaught. It terrace X-Men, but is unable to kill them. During this time, the young person X-Man (Nate Grey) contacted the Avengers to ask them of the assistance against Onslaught. Incrédules, they come all the same to the Xavier institute. They reflect with X-Men on the nature of Onslaught, seeking for example to interpret the resemblance of the colossus to the armor of Magneto. The heroes are distributed the following tasks: to find Magneto (composite team of X-Men and Vengeurs), to warn the Four Fantastic ones (small team of Avengers), to protect Nate Grey (X-Force, allied team of X-Men), to find and protect Cable (Tornado) to seek useful informations on the island of Muir, laboratory of Xavier (team of X-Men). Far from there, an army of sentinels is activated, programmed to besiege Manhattan.

; ; Phase 2 The Doctor Strange and his Gomurr ally help the Plague to be released from the jewel. From now on Cain Marko does not have any more a jewel, but guard its pouvoir.
X-Men unload in the island of Muir and explore there a known hidden place of Xavier alone. They discover the " there; Xavier" protocol;: a whole of weapons and plans to eliminate any member from X-Men which would turn badly. There is even an armor designed to protect its carrier from the capacities of Xavier - and thus from the telepathic capacities of Onslaught.

; ; Phase 3 Mister Sinistre tackles X-Force accompanied as of its Maraudeurs and manages to remove X-Man.

; ; Phase 4 Onslaught subjects Hulk to its mental control, and sends it to complete Cable. This one is helped by Tornade. To them two, they manage to strike Hulk rather brutally to release it from the influence of Onslaught. Hulk joint with them in the fight against Onslaught.

; ; Phase 5 The Black Deer, lackey of Onslaught, are overcome whereas it tried to find new allies for his Master. Various servants of Onslaught are overcome.

; ; Impact 2 Emma Frost evacuates the young students of the Xavier institute in Canada. Errors of its share lead it to be opposed to the Division Alpha. When they are finally able to get along, the Canadian heroes do not have any more time to join Manhattan to help with the fight against Onslaught.

; ; Phase 6 The mixed team Vengeurs/X-Men finds Magneto, renovated, being made call " Joseph" , and partially amnesic. It is only well later that the characters as well as the readers learn that it was acted in fact of the clone of Magneto. Joseph agrees to accompany them in New York.

; ; Phase 7 Professor Xavier returns visit to the Fantastic Four and proposes to them to become the tutor of Franklin Richards, the child of Mr. Fantastique and the Invisible Woman, since it is about a mutant. Those refuse. Onslaught takes again its true appearance then (although having taken the appearance of Xavier, the true personality of this last had not taken again control) and crushes the Fantastic ones, as well as some X-Men and Vengeurs come to prevent them. Onslaught escapes by kidnapping Franklin.

; ; Phase 8 The Sentinels put Manhattan in state of siege, and start the tracking of superhuman inside. The Avengers, Fantastic and X-Men destroy some as much as possible. Scientific heroes (Reed Richars, Iron Man…) go up supposed machines to counter the capacities of Onslaught, but they know that in the state they will not be enough. Onslaught succeeds in absorbing the capacities of Franklin Richards. It then reveals a citadel dominating Manhattan, and launches a electromagnetic Impulsion which puts to KB all the using heroes of the technological armours (like Iron Man).

; ; Phase 9 Wolverine finds Gateway, a member reservist of X-Men. This one teaches him how Onslaught was created. At the time of the last battle against Magneto, Xavier erased all the bad aspects of the personalities of Magneto. But this criminal personality has in fact migrated in the unconscious one of Xavier, where it amalgamated with all the evil that this last drove back. Onslaught then became an autonomous spirit. It ended up dominating Xavier for the control of his body.

; ; Impact 3 Spider-Man and its clone (even if that which one believed being truth at the time were in fact the clone) destroys some Sentinels.

; ; Impact 4 Return of the true Deer.

; ; Phase 10 Onslaught pushes X-Man to escape the claws from Mister Sinistre. Neither Disaster nor X-Force come from to empécher Onslaught to remove the young mutant. The heroes combatant the Sentinels receive the assistance of Joseph and even Doctor Fatalis.
Apocalypse is combined with the Invisible Woman and Cable to release the children captive of Onslaught. But when Apocalypse tries to kill X-Man (because it is a child manufactured genetically to kill Apocalypse), the Invisible Woman opposes him and forces it to flee. Onslaught expels both easily héros.
While combining their weapons with the anti-Xavier armor, the scientific heroes assemble finally a device able to protect them from the principal capacities of Onslaught. Post and Holocauste, servants of Onslaught, are to send to destroy the apparatus. Vis-a-vis their formidable firepower, the Avengers triumph only by pushing the two monsters to be fought between them. Onslaught intervenes. Joseph then Cyclops employ all their power to split the armor of Onslaught. Thor benefits from the crack to release Xavier of the armor. All expect that, private of Xavier, Onslaught ceases existing. But having absorbed the capacity of Franklin, Onslaught created for itself a physical consistency with its capacities. Thor did nothing but accelerate the " mue" of Onslaught, which counted débarasser of Xavier after having aspired all his forces (saving Xavier, but all the capacities of Xavier are now in the claws of Onslaught). The release of Onslaught releases an impulse of energy. The Invisible Woman and Cable allow the other heroes to draw some alive, New York is private of électricité.
Hulk tries an attack only whereas the development of the device is not finished. Onslaught plunges it in a false reality. Understanding that it does not have any chance only, Hulk renonce.
The heroes must fight two powerful servants of Onslaught: Post and Holocauste. Vis-a-vis their firepower, the Avengers are exceeded, but they finally manage to push them to neutralize itself mutually.

; ; Phase 11 Xavier tries a mediation with Onslaught, but this one threatens to kill it. X-Men arrive in refort, then the other heroes. Onslaught is creating a new Sun to destroy any life on Earth, and is surrounded by a shield not to be stopped. Fatalis notes that the Sun must take a great part of its energy, and proposes a tactic to strike it effectively: to open a crack in the shield, then that X-Man Malicia and the Avenger Vision amalgamate (Vision being able to become immaterial) to strike it together. The telepathic Jean Grey déshinibe Hulk, who unchains all his forces and breaks the physical envelope of Onslaught.

Onslaught Reborn

Onslaught is of return in Onslaught Reborn #1 (November 2006), because of the negative feelings of Charles Xavier caused by the events of House off M and Deadly Genesis . The series is scénarisée by Jeph Loeb and is drawn by Rob Liefeld.
