Olivier Voutier
Olivier Voutier (born the May 30th 1796 with Thouars - died the April 18th 1877 with Hyères) is a French naval officer, discoverer of the Venus de Milo.
Wire of an officer, it entered at fifteen years to the School of Brest.
He discovered the Venus de Milo in 1820 when the Gabarre of the king Chevrette on which was Dumont d' Urville, itself being raise-officer on the Goélette Estafette , make stopover with Milo. The attribution of discovered in Voutier is not confirmed by Amable Matterer (first mate of Chevrette).
In 1821, he resigned of the marine and he joined the combatants of the Guerre of Greek independence and Alexandre Ypsilantis, creator of the Bataillon crowned of Iaşi. He assisted with part of the head office of Tripolizza where it arrived in September 1821, in company of the Scottish philhellene Th. Gordon. In March 1822, the Minister for the War Ioannis Kolettis of the provisional government of Greece entrusted the task to him to reduce the place of Athens while sparing the monuments. He was then named colonel of the Greek army.
He withdrew himself with Hyères in 1847 when he acquired of 1849 to 1860 a field where he made build the Castel Holy-Claire . He is buried in the park of the Manor house.
