It has as an aim of protection the Réfugié S, to find a durable solution with their problems and to take care of the application of the Geneva Convention on the Réfugié S.

Origin

The origin of the HCR goes back to the creation of the Intergovernmental Committee for the refugees (CIR), at the time of the Conférence of Evian of 1938.

But the CIR did not have time to be set up before the Second world war.

History

In 1946, the first General meeting of the United Nations made fate of the Réfugié S a priority. And it is in 1947 that the International organization for the refugees was created (OIR).

Following a series of international tensions, it was decided to replace the OIR by an organization Apolitique, which would deal only with the humane side of the refugees. And it is on January 1st 1951 which was created the HCR in the place of the OIR.

The HCR received two Nobel Prize of peace in 1954 and 1981.

Ambassadors of good will

The HCR works with seven ambassadors and ambassadors of good will, who put their notoriety, their time and their talent with the service of the refugees: it is about the singer Barbara Hendricks (named in 1987), of the Egyptian actor Adel Imam (2000), of the actress Angelina Jolie (2001), of the dressmaker Italy N Giorgio Armani (2002), of the singer French Julien Clerc (2003), of the Greek singer George Dalaras (2006) and of the actor Uruguay in Osvaldo Laport (2006).

Since 2001, the American actress Angelina Jolie traversed the world in the name of the HCR to tighten the hand with the Réfugié S. At the sides of the teams of the HCR on the ground, it went to the meeting of the Réfugié S in more than one score of country.
