The patriotism (of Latin Lord's Prayer , father) is a Sentiment of membership of a Pays, which reinforces the Unité according to Valeur S communes.
It is a state of heart /d ' Esprit which pushes somebody to feel Amour and pride and to defend the Intérêt S of its country.
It should not be confused with the Chauvinisme, which is its even aggressive excessive demonstration, and it must be distinguished from the Nationalisme, which is a political Idéologie.
The expression Economic patriotism is sometimes employed, in France, since launching in 2003 by the Prime Minister of a public Politique of economic Intelligence. It rests on the concept of economic self-defense , translated the fact of defending the Rough National product French; the " patriotism économique" is a behavior of the consumers, companies and public authorities which, in a context of universalization of the economy, seek to support the goods and services produced in their country. One of its recent demonstrations is financial protectionism vis-a-vis foreign multinationals wanting to acquire companies considered as " stratégiques" for the economy of the country. The expression appeared in 2003 in the " parliamentary report; Economic intelligence, competitiveness, cohesion sociale" of the deputy (French!) author of the economic report/ratio Intelligence, competitiveness and social cohesion, Bernard Carayon.
In the army, patriotism is the moral direction being able to push a Soldat to defend the interests of its country, rather than to yield to the attacks of the enemy.

In Europe: during the Second world war, a great patriotic dash was born through the countries invaded by the Germans, more by love of their country, that by hatred of the enemy.
At other times, and as regards specific to France, one saw:
- Leon Gambetta, 1870,
- Louis-Nathaniel Rossel, 1870
- Joseph Galliéni: taxis of the the Marne (1914),
- Michel Joseph Maunoury, General, officer of Artillery. Battle of the Marne, Bataille of Aisne (1914)
- Georges Clémenceau, father the Victoire (1918)
- Charles de Gaulle: Call of June 18th (1940),
- Philippe de Hauteclocque.
At the beginning of the French revolution, patriotic companies were constituted, like the patriotic Société of 1789, rather moderate, as well as the patriotic Société of Luxembourg. This last company is regarded by François Perrault as being one of the most radical groups of the French revolution.
The historians consider sometimes that, in France, the nation was born with the Bataille from Bouvines (1214).
It is difficult to identify patriotism with the nation today, because of the size of the geopolitical units.
In the United States
the USA Patriot Act was voted by the American Congrès on October 26th 2001, following the Attentats of September 11th. Although " PATRIOT" that is to say an acronym, it acts well of a law aiming at defending the interests of the United States. This law gives all the capacities to the American legislator to reach all the oral or electronic communications being able to have a bond with the interests of the the United States, in the broad sense of the term.
