Nypa

Nypa is a kind which belongs to the family of the Arécacées, and which includes/understands only one, Nypa fruticans (Wurmb, 1779). This Palmier can form true Mangrove S in the south of the Asia.

It is a very old kind. One thus found remainders of Pollen fossilized palm tree mangrove which are estimated at 70 million years.

The Nypa kind is the single one representing Sous-famille Nypoideae.

Description

  • Feather-grass and Sheet S: The Nypa palm tree has a horizontal trunk which pushes under the ground, and only the sheets and the flowers emergent on the surface. Consequently, it cannot be regarded as a tree, although the sheets can reach up to 9 meters height.

  • Inflorescence : The flowers are carried by a globulous inflorescence, which has female flowers with the extremity or male flowers on the low branches.
  • Fruit S: The Fleur gives a woody Graine, which is arranged in compressed bunch having the shape of ball which is located at the end of a solitary stem of 25 cm. The seeds become ripe separate from the ball and float at water surface, and are thus disseminated by the currents.

Habitat

The Nypa palm tree pushes in the mud or mud, where the current of the tide brings the nutrients necessary to him to its growth. Uses

Lastly, the young sheets are used in the consumption of the Tabac.
