Nozzle of Guedel

A nozzle of Guedel is a semi-rigid plastic tube, in the form of question mark used to maintain the routes air of a patient open (the depression of the Langue prevents, which blocks the pharynx).

Installation, it does not eliminate the need for putting the patient in side Position of safety (PLS): if it prevents the depression of the language, it does not prevent the closing of the épiglotte nor the Syndrome of Mendelson.

The nozzle is inserted point to the top, and is turned over ve rs bottom when it is completely inserted.

The nozzles of Guedel should be used only on unconscious patients (Score of Glasgow lower than 5), in cardiorespiratory Arrêt or sédaté: it is likely to cause a vomiting, and a patient taking again conscience goes spontaneously recracher the nozzle when he finds the reflex of the Toux.
