392: Théodose I {{er}} imposes a legislation abolishing the pagan worships and prohibiting any pagan behavior in the Empire.
- Théodose prohibits all the pagan religious demonstrations (philosophical schools of Athens, Olympic Games, Mystères of Éleusis, etc).
- Théodose entrusts the protection of Valentinien II and the defense of the Gaulle to the frank and pagan general Arbogast. This one becomes by its value and its extremely popular experiment in the army. Valentinien which supports its supervision badly, the fact of revoking. Arbogast refuses to obey and makes assassinate Valentinien (according to another version, it would have committed suicide), then gives the empire to the one of his/her friends, Eugene, senior official of the imperial chancellery.
