History

The town of Noisy the Large one, located on a headland which dominates and makes it possible to control the valley of the Marne, is a very old city. According to the Leboeuf abbot, the Roman , as of the Gaulle conquered would have planted many walnut trees in this area, from where the name of Noisy on the basis of the Latin root Nucis (nut).

Noisy-the-large was a residence of the kings Mérovingiens. One can always see the remainder of their villa to the site of the current Chilpéric court. According to the legend, Clovis would have been buried with Noisy-the-Large. The Carolingiens would have then built a small vault above this furnace bridge.

In 1060, the city becomes to the hands monks of Saint-Martin-of-Fields by a donation of Henri I {{er}}. The latter reflect in value these grounds until the French revolution where the field was put on sale. At the 19th century the vine dominated in the area then, decimated by will phylloxéra, disappeared.

In 1841 appeared the first town hall then a nursery school, towards 1860. During the Prussian invasion of 1870, the population noiséenne took refuge in the capital. Towards 1878 took place the construction of the fort of Villiers.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, the city is a rural village. The arrival of the Tramway in 1901 will transform the city. Indeed, these means of transport will allow the transport of the workmen working Paris. In the other direction, the Parisian ones will benefit from this innovation to come to walk to the countryside Sunday. The arrival of the tram made it possible the town of Noisy to pass from country village to tourist small town with its guinguettes in edge of the Marne, and its go of hunting.

In the Années 1930, many allotments will be built, which will transform the village into suburban town, the population passing of 200 with more than 10.000 inhabitants.

Starting from the Years 1960, the fast urbanization in certain countries encourages the authorities to plan the development of the greatest agglomerations by the creation of new cities to their periphery, to limit the centralization of the more big cities and to try to make multipolar agglomerations of them. In 1965, five new cities are created in Île-de-France to unchoke the capital. The perimeter of Marne-the-Valley is born as well as the structures of the zac of the Mount of is and the district of the new Paving stone.

The November 5th 2005, at the time of the rioting in the suburb, the gymnasium of Ridge-green was burnt there whereas this one had just been renovated after another fire in 1993.

The district of the Mount of Is

The installation of Noisy-the-Large during the creation of the new city of Marne-the-Valley was the occasion to entrust to the Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill the realization of the dwelling part of the district of the Mount of is located beside the shopping mall of the Arcades in the same district: “Spaces of Abraxas” located place of Federated, with a whole of three buildings (the “Theater” in the west, the “Arc” in the center and the “Palacio” in the east). This unit was built between 1978 and 1983.

Palacio is a massive building of 18 stages of modern Greek inspiration and orthogonal form. It is composed of four stair-wells (of two cabins and backstairs out of snail) accommodating each one approximately 250 apartments.

The Theater is a more modest building of pace surrounding a place evoking the shapes of the ancient theaters. It is composed of small ten stair-wells (of an elevator and backstairs) and accommodates a score of apartment per cage. The unit takes the form of a half Cylindre dug in its center.

Lastly, the Arc is composed of two stair-wells which meet on the seventh floor to form an arch. This arc is surrounded by Palacio and the Theater.

Between these buildings gardens, alas rather summarily maintained are.

Certain scenes of the film Brazil of Terry Gilliam were turned in “Spaces of Abraxas”.

New Paving stone

The architecture of the dwellings of the New Paving stone, as for it, was entrusted to Manolo Nuñez-Yanowsky, which builds a unit called “the Arenas of Picasso” in 1985.

The unit is mainly made up of buildings surrounding a place. At the two ends, two large cylinders, whose axis is parallel to the equator, are embedded in the dwellings. The unit is an abstract representation of a reversed carriage.

The popular tradition allotted very an other name to the place: this unit is called by the local inhabitants the “Camembert S” in reference to the shape of the cylinders.
