Niall Glúndub
Niall Glúndub O' Neill (870 - 919) king of the Cenél nÉogain and laughed Ard Érenn (916 - 919)
Niall Glúndub (i.e black Knee ?) was the son of the laughed Ard Érenn Aed Finnliath (863 - 879) and of Maelmuire (dead in 913) a girl of Kenneth mac Alpin king of the Pictes and Scots of Dalriada.
It tries to supplant as king of Ailech his Domnall brother in 900. But it must await the death of this sum of money in 915 to obtain the title.
In December 910 combined with people of Ulster it organizes a forwarding against the kingdom of Meath center of the capacity of the laughed Ard Érenn Flann Sinna mac Mael Sechlainn during which Aed mac Mal Patraic Ui Fhiachrach is killed.
In 916 it succeeds Flann Sinna within the framework of alternation between the O' Neill of the South and North.
Confronted with the return of the Vikings in Ireland, it must lead a forwarding without effect to the Munster against the forces of Rongvald. Towards 910 Niall Glúndub had married Gormlaith girl of Flann Sinna and widow of Cormac mac Cuilenne king of Cashel killed in 908 and of Cearbhall mac Muirigen king of Leinster killed in 909. She died in 948 after having been the widow of three kings.
Niall left a son Muirchertach mac Neill " with leather clothing " (killed in 943) which was king d' Ailech but the title of laughed Ard Érenn passed to Donnchadh Donn O' Neill the son of Sinna Blank.
