Newport Beach is a city of the county of Orange in California located at 16 km in the south of Santa Anna. The city had a population of 70 032 inhabitants in 2000.
Newport Beach is at the same time a pleasant seaside resort and a very smart residential district of the agglomeration of Los Angeles.
The seaside resort has long and broad sand beach along Balboa Peninsula, bordered of a walk pedestrian (Ocean Face). Balboa Peninsula is a Lido i.e. a sandy offshore bar which protects bay and the port from Newport Beach in which the islands of Balboa Island and Lido Isle are located. The historic building of Newport Beach is Balboa Pavilion built in 1906 in the middle of the peninsula.
Corona del Mar is the residential district which dominates the port.
De Newport Beach, one can embark for the Île Santa Catalina visible on the horizon.
In the continental part of the city the shopping mall of Fashion Island rises.
Attractions
History
After the américano-Mexican War in 1848, the American laws were founded in California in 1850.
In 1870, the captain S.S. Dunnells brought a boat, the “Vaquero”, in a bay which did not carry yet of name. The Dunnells captain decided to name it " New Port." In 1879, James and Robert McFadden created the McFadden' S Landing (unloading dock of McFadden). This one was installed inside bay.
In 1888, McFaddens decided that their business of boats would be gravitational if they moved it interior of bay to the ocean. Consequently they built the McFaddens' Wharf (McFaddens Quay) at the place or is today the Newport Pier.
In 1906 the Balboa Pavilion was finished with its twin project, the Balboa Pier (in order to attract purchasers on the peninsula of Balboa with Newport). Finally, the houses vis-a-vis the sea were sold for the moderate amount of 500 dollars.
From 1906, Newport Beach became a tourist destination with the arrival of the Pacific Electric Railway which finished in Balboa Pavilion.
In August 1906, Newport Beach was built-in like city.
In 1908, John Scarpa, an Italian gondolier, organized the first luminous parade of boat with Christmas in the port of Newport. This became a tradition still perpetuated today.
In 1910, McFaddens sold the Lido and the Balboa Island for 35.000 dollars.
In 1916, Balboa Island was attached to Newport Beach.
In 1923, Corona del Mar was annexed to the city.
In 1926, the California State Route 1 was built through the city.
In 1936, the port of Newport was officially inaugurated. One had needed a project of 1,8 million dollars to dredge the sand banks out of bay and to lengthen the piers.
Small-with-small, Newport Beach then became the place of residence of many celebrities. Most popular was John Wayne, known as a “the Duke" . The other celebrities residing à/ou having their boat at Newport Beach include James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Shirley Temple, and Errol Flynn. Moreover, " Roy Rogers and Flagstone Evans " just like George Burns resided at Newport Beach.
In 1953, the Boy Scouts off America met where the Newport Center and the Fashion Island are currently. It was the first Jamboree scout being held in the west of the river the Mississippi with 50.000 scouts of the 48 states, of Alaska, of Hawaii and 16 foreign countries.
In 1962, the trains of Pacific Electric along the Pacific Ocean are used for the last time for the delivery of boats with Newport Beach.
In 1967, Fashion Island was finished. Newport Center Drive, a circular road, surrounds Fashion Island and justifies the d'" term; island" given at this shopping mall.
In 1990 began the allotment from Newport Coast. The famous player of professional Basketball, Kobe Bryant resides at Newport Coast today.

Geography
Newport Beach is with 8 meters with the top of the sea level and is with.The city is surrounded in the west by Huntington Beach along the river Santa Anna, in north by Costa Mesa, the Aéroport John-Wayne and Irvine (of which CPU Irvine), in the east by the Crystal Cove State Park and in the south by the Pacific Ocean.
According to the United States Census Office, the city has a surface of 103,2 km ² of which 38,3 km ² are grounds and 64,9 km ² are 62,91% of water.
The territory of Newport Beach includes Corona del Mar, Balboa Island, Newport Coast, San Joaquin Hills, and Balboa Peninsula (known also as a Balboa).
Port
Prehistoric bed of the river Santa Anna form the Upper Newport Bay. Santa Anna feeds the delta (the Back Bay ) and joined thereafter the port of Newport.
Demography
According to a census of 2000, there are 70.032 people with Newport Beach, including 33.071 households, and 16.965 families resident in the city.
On the 33.071 households, 18,0% have a child of less than 18 years, 42,5% are married couples, 6,1% do not have husbands present, and 48,7% are not families. 35,3% of these households are made of a person including 10,1% of a person of 65 or more.
The Middle Age of the population is 42 years. For 100 women it there 97,9 men. For 100 women of 18 or more, there are 96,6 men.
The average revenue of a household is of 62 048,33 € ($ 83.455), and that of a family of 82 651,30€ ($111 166). The men have an average revenue of 54 591,08€ ($73 425) against 33 761,34€ ($45 409) for the women. The average revenue per capita is of 46 851,30€ ($63 015). Nearly 2,1% to the families and 4,4% of the population lives in lower part of the Poverty line, including 3,0% of those in 18 year old lower part and 3,5% of those of 65 and more.
