New Women

New Women (新女性 - naked Xin xing ) is a silent film Chinese carried out by Cai Chusheng, left in 1934.

Synopsis

The film shows us the life of a modern young woman and good education in the Shanghai of the Années 1920, Wei Ming (Ruan Lingyu). At the beginning of film, Wei Ming works as professor of music in a school, even if she dreams to become writer. Wei Ming meets a friend, Yu Haichou (Zheng Junli) and a former schoolmate, Zhang Xiuzhen, which is called now Mrs Wang, in a tram.

Around film

New Women quickly became one of greatest successes of its time. It was mainly with its main actor, Ruan Lingyu, which will enormously souffra media beating and pressure of the journalists who were caught some with his private life. Little time after the exit of film, Ruan committed suicide.

Today, this film is regarded as one of traditional Chinese cinema of the Années 1930. In film of Stanley Kwan Center Training course (1992) which describes the life of Ruan Lingyu, one sees a turning of the final scene of film.
