Nevers

Nevers is a common French, located in the department of the Nievre and the area Burgundy.

Its inhabitants is called the Residents of Nevers (the Neversois term often used is inaccurate).

Name

The name of Nevers east derived from that of the Nievre. It is documented in the forms: Nevirnum , Ebirno , Neberno , Nevernis … of old * a Néuar-ino- . One - S replaced - N of origin.

Jules César gave him the Gallic name of Noviodunum “new fortified town”.

Geography

The city is located at the confluences of the Nievre (affluent of the Loire), Allier (affluent of the Loire) and of the the Loire. To see, the panorama of the nozzle To combine. Nevers owes with Louis IV of Nevers his famous activity of faience manufacture. Towards the end of the 16th century, it makes come from Italy Augustin Conrade, potter of Albissola, close to Savone, and his/her brothers, Baptiste and Dominique whom it installs with the castle of the Marsh with Gimouille. Tourist monuments and places
