Nebula of the Cone
The nebulous of the Cone (or NGC 2264 ) is a Région HII of the constellation of the Licorne. She was discovered by William Herschel in 1785. Nebula is to approximately 800 Parsec S (or 2.600 light-years) of the Ground.
The nebula of the Cone is part of the cluster of the Christmas tree. Designation NGC 2264 refers to the two objects, and not to nebula alone.
General data
The Nébuleuse diffuses Cone, thus named because of its apparent form, is located at the south of NGC 2264, in the northern part of the constellation of the Unicorn, just with the top of the medium between Procyon and Bételgeuse.
Form conical comes from nebula cold, made up primarily of Hydrogen molecular, which absorbs the dust of a weak nebula of emission, which contains molecular hydrogen ionized by S Monocerotos, the most brilliant star of NGC 2264.
William Herschel discovered the nebula of the Cone (which it named H V.27) on December 26th, 1785.
