National library of Serbia
The National library of Serbia , in Serb Cyrillic НароднабиблиотекаСрбије and into Serb transliterated Narodna biblioteka Srbije, is located at Belgrade, in the municipality of Vračar, close to the Cathédrale Saint-Sava.
The idea of the library returns to Dimitrije Davidović, which was the editor of the first Serb newspaper and the Representative of Prince Miloš Ier Obrenović. In February 1832, Davidović wrote to the prince to suggest to him the creation of a vast library. He was listened and the prince ordered the obligation of deposit in what was going to become the National library of Serbia.
In 1941 the bombardment of Belgrade by the Nazis destroyed several hundreds of thousands of books, including 1.424 manuscripts and charters written into Cyrillic.
