My Generation is the first album of the British rock group The Who left in 1965.
There in particular remained famous for its song-title My Generation , which launched the career of the group. It was classified by stores Rolling Stone 11th in its classification of the 500 greater songs of all times, behind What' D I Say of Ray Charles.
At its exit, the album reached the fifth place of the British charts. However, the American version, named The Who Sings My Generation , did not succeed in entering to the hit-parade.
According to the booklet of the edition deluxe of the album, the song I' m has Man was isolated version of the album intended for the the United States because of its contents sexual and replaced by Instant Party . This same American version, named The Who Sings My Generation , was truncated of a short solo of battery and guitar in feedback at the end of The Kids Are Alright , thus erasing a tendency of the group to the Pop sound art.
Many songs of the album left in individual. Except My Generation , which preceded the exit and reached the second place of the sales to the the United Kingdom, has Legal Matter , La-La it Lies and The Kids Are Alright also be left into individual, however without the commercial success of the song My Generation .
Artistic characteristics
The album was recorded during the first musical period of Who, known under the term of “Maximum R&B”. My Generation thus includes/understands many resumptions of groups of Rhythm and blues, like James Brown, in addition to compositions R&B written by the guitarist of the group Pete Townshend. This album remains in the general mobility of the pop music of the time; however, one indicates certain characteristics which place this disc a little separately. The sound is a little more aggressive than the majority of the discs of the time, even if distortion is rather seldom heard. The rhythm section of Keith Moon and John Entwistle is well development; one can hear impressive parts of battery played by Moon (the topic example remains the song The OX ) and of the base lines showing the virtuosity of Entwistle ( My Generation ).
If My Generation and The Kids Are Alright remains among the most taken again songs of Who, My Generation is an aggressive piece and vintage which predicts the movements heavy metal and Punk. The Kids Are Alright , pop piece more sophisticated, with guitars claquantes, vocal harmonies and a merrily sung melody, guard however the general rate/rhythm of the titles of Who of the time.
The small pocket of the album
On the small pocket of My Generation figure a photograph of the group, posing beside some gasoline cans, looking to the top the objective. John Entwistle carries on his shoulders a jacket to the reason for the British flag. The small pocket of the version of the the United States differs from original English; on this one is a photograph of the group with the Big Ben in background.
