Music Corporation off America

The Music Corporation off America (MCA), created in 1924 with Chicago by Jules Stein, was an American company working in the industry of the disc and television.

In 1962, acquired MCA Universal Pictures . MCA/Universal Pictures was in its turn acquired in 1990 by Matsushita Electric ( Universal Pictures was then renamed Universal Studios ).
But five years later already, in 1995, Matsushita resold 80% of MCA/Universal Studios to Seagram which will divide the group into Universal Studios on the one hand and Universal Music on the other hand (old MCA Music Entertainment Group , to which the purchase of PolyGram in 1998 will be added). Thus name MCA disappeared definitively.

Lastly, in 2000, while amalgamating with Seagram, the French group acquired Vivendi SA Universal Studios and Universal Music, and formed the new group Vivendi Universal .
In 2004, Vivendi Universal, in prey with serious financial problems, yielded Vivendi Universal Entertainment (including/understanding Universal Studios) to the General Electric which integrated it within the new group of media NBC Universal (had to 20% by Vivendi Universal). Universal Music parcontre, is held at 100% by Vivendi Universal since February 2006, following the repurchase of the 20% which still Matsushita held.
