Old woman Prison of Three-Rivers
Work of the architect François Baillargé and going back to 1822, it is classified historic building since 1978. More than one simple visit of the places, the Québécois Museum of popular culture wanted to make a single experiment of it.
The guides are ex-prisoners, rich person of their lived prison, they share with the visitors this sometimes disconcerting reality for a single visit-experiment.
The faithful reconstitution of the places, the visit of the cells and the dungeons, guide the visitors towards a strong, disconcerting and real experiment.
There the initial capacity was of approximately forty prisoners, more than one hundred could be accommodated simultaneously. Closed in 1986 for insalubrity, the Old prison of Three-Rivers was the oldest prison establishment in function in Canada.
Since the autumn 2004, the groups can there make a one night Sentence and try out more intensely the prison reality of this prison closed for insalubrity. The visitors are received by the “guard” and pass by the process of admission (digital fingerprints, photograph, handing-over of the dress of the prisoner). They are then renewed in a wing of the prison to pass the evening there. During this period, an organizer ex-prisoner accompanies the group to testify to reality. Under the supervision of the guard, they are then invited to sleep in their respective cell. The following day, they are entitled to the breakfast of the prisoner.
