Murcie
Murcie is a common south of the Spain, capital of the Région of Murcie (community uniprovinciale). With a population of 409 810 inhabitants, it is the seventh town of Spain. Its agglomeration counts 563 272 inhabitants. It is crossed by the river Segura.
Geography
Located at 43 meters height, in the Valley of Segura, at the edge of this river, of Mediterranean rain mode, low flow but with strong risings, like those of 1946,1948,1973 or 1989 which flooded the capital murcian.Most known of Murcie is its kitchen garden which recovers most of the commune. It is a town of plain but with hills which surround the valley of Segura, by underlining that of Monteagudo, where a castle Arab of the Middle Ages is found.
The territory of the commune of Murcie is composed of 54 districts and 28 districts.

Climate
Considering its proximity with the sea the Mediterranean, Murcie enjoys a Mediterranean Climat, of semi-arid type, with soft winters and hot summers.There can be more than 300 days of sun per annum, with few precipitations.
Water is a very invaluable good in the area especially if one considers the great market-gardening richness which characterizes the zone. Precipitations concentrate over a few days per annum.
The temperatures oscillate between the 16°/4° in January and the 34°/20° in August, although one often exceeds the 40° the summer. The record of Température of the 20th century is of 47,2° the July 4th 1994.
History
Murcie was founded under the name of Mursiya during the year of 825 by the Al-Andalus emir Abderramán II.The Arabs, benefitting from the course of the Segura river close to the city, built a hydrological network complexes (irrigation canals, drains, stoppings, aqueducts…) who gave his prosperity to the city. They are the precursors of the current system of irrigation of the kitchen garden starting from the Segura river.
Until second half of the 11th century, Murcie is an independent kingdom. It is reconquered then by Alphonse X of Castille or the Wise one and is integrated into the Castille. In 1296, it passes to the Crown of Aragon then, by the Traité of Torrellas in 1304, returns in Castille as a capital of the kingdom of Murcie.
Murcie is the birthplace of the famous mystic Ibn Arabî (1165, Murcie - 1240, Damas).
In 1651, Murcie is shaven by the fury of the Segura river which makes more 1 000 dead.
Since the creation of the provinces at the 19th century, it is the capital of the province of Murcie and, since 1982, of the area éponyme.
These last years, Murcie knew a spectacular population growth which made the seventh most populated commune of it Spain.

Demography
Murcia counts 409.810 inhabitants (2005) (either the 7th most populated city of Spain).At the XXe century, it maintained a positive development constant, except during the Sixties, with a light reduction.
The commune increased of 881.86 km ² and the population was distributed between the principal core and the many districts.
In 2005, there was, in the urban core, 179.649 inhabitants and 230.161 in the 45 other districts. Its metropolitan sector, integrated moreover by the communes of Alcantarilla, Alguazas, Beniel, Molina de Segura, Santomera and Las Torres de Cotillas, counts 563.272 inhabitants.
