Mozabites
The Mozabites - or Blessed-Mzab - are Berber people of the area of the Algerian Mzab , essentially Moslem ibadite, and speaking the Mozabite - not to confuse with the Moabites, of Jordan.
They currently constitute 60% of the inhabitants of the valley, which has also known for at least a century, a progressive surge of Arab populations , wandering, of rite malékite - of which Blessed-Merzoug and Me dabih , installed with Ghardaïa, the Chaâmba , come from the close relation Metlili to be established in Melika following the agreement (1317) concluded with people from Mélika, and finally, the Mekhadma , which live in restricted groups with Bounoura and Al-Atteuf.
The Jewish community - whose North-African origins are not any doubt - also settled in Ghardaïa, before leaving the area in 1962 with the European Community. (see Jewish of Mzab).
