Moulding

The moulding is the action to take a impressed which will be used then as mould in which a material will be versed and which will allow pulling or the production in several specimens of a model. But it is not simply enough to choose a product, to cover the model and to wait with it until that hardens to build a mould! The moulding requires much reflection and taste. For any operation it is necessary to study the forms thoroughly, to feel the least details them. With a little experiment, this observation attentive of the model allied with a little practice makes it possible to determine the choice of the technique, and the products to be used.

It is a technique which consists in forming an object using a mould which marries, in hollow, the shape of the desired object.

The moulded matter must be able to pass from the liquid state in a solid state or to be pasty but sufficiently consistent to be able to be unmoulded without becoming deformed.

The most various matters can be moulded:

The technique of the moulding generally aims the manufacture of objects in more or less important series. That supposes that the once solidified object can be released (release from the mould) without deterioration of the mould. In the majority of the cases, the mould to this end consists of several elements, solidarized mechanically at the time of the moulding, and separated for the démoulage.
The object even is modified him in its forms, according to the fact that it will be obtained by moulding (Dépouille S, Congé S, etc).
In certain cases (object of very complicated form, single part - as in sculpture for example) the release from the mould is obtained by destruction of the moule.
The appearance of flexible moulds (originally in Gelatin and today especially in Silicone) allows a notable simplification in the design of the moulds, as well as direct obtaining forms which would have required a machining after moulding with a rigid mould (forms in undercut in particular).
