Because of this geographical location, Morlaix was victim of important floods (particularly in 1880,1883,1925,1974 and 2000).

Origin of the name of Morlaix
The exact origin was not indicated, and remains unknown; here some assumptions:
- a book of the XVIe century, would have taken again one to say Conrad (XIIe century). That seems to be invented.
- Morlaix would draw its Latin name of name E from the establishment Roman E Mons Relaxus ; the deformations during the centuries would be at the origin of its French and Breton names, and form one of the most credible origins.
- It is also question of the direction " mor- the " , " close to the mer" : but much of other words that " lès" could have played.
- the Baron de Wismes estimated with the XIXe century that it was about the expression " if they bite you, bite to them " , indicating the English; that was kept like official currency. (to be noted besides that this currency is almost single in its kind)
- According to other recent texts (1981 - 1982), it would be about the contraction of the expression " Relaix" mount; , related to a Patronym.
