Montoire-on-the-Dormouse is a common French, located in the department of Loir-et-Cher and the area Center. The inhabitants of Montoire-on-the-Dormouse are the montoiriens. The city is a rural core.

History

Montoire-on-the-dormouse is known for the “Entrevue of Montoire”, between the marshal Pétain and Adolf Hitler the October 24th 1940, which was held at the station of Montoire. It is on this occasion that the French collaboration with the Nazi regime was considered. The station of Montoire was selected for its relative insulation and its proximity with the axis Paris-Hendaye. Moreover, in the event of air attack, the train could be put at the shelter in the tunnel of Saint-Rimay near. The armor-plated doors that one can see at the entries of this tunnel, were installed in 1943, and a German headquarters was created in Saint-Rimay and Thoré-la-Rochette, in direct connection with Berlin.

Personalities related to the commune

Charles Busson , Landscape designer French born in Montoire in 1822 having received the lessons of Jean-Charles-Joseph Rémond and French François-Louis. Its most known works are: the Surroundings of Montoire , the Ford , the Moors close to Tartas , Before the storm , the Evening on the edges of the Dormouse , Sunset and Storm in the Moors , Old ditches of the Castle of Lavardin . He died in 1908.

International Festival of Folklore which is held each year the week of the August 15th (thirty fifth edition in 2007). This festival gathers approximately 10 groups of different countries coming from the 5 continents each year. Its frequentation does of them one of the major events of the area during the summer.
