a Christmas carol ( has Christmas Carol ), also published in French under the titles Cantique of Christmas , Christmas carol or Conte of Christmas , is a Conte written by Charles Dickens in 1843. Written in the beginning to refund a debt, this history became one of the most popular tales of Christmas.

History

During the night preceding Christmas, a miserly old man acariâtre and named “Ebenezer Scrooge” receives the visit of the phantom of its late associated Jacob Marley come to say to him that its current behavior cannot make it happy. Later in this same night, Scrooge receives the successive visit of three phantoms incarnating last Christmas present and future. Each of the three phantoms revives to him one moment of its life which makes him become aware that it will find peace only while being devoted to the others.

In France, Harpagon the central figure of Miserly the of Molière can be regarded as the equivalent of Scrooge.

Adaptations

a Christmas carol is the most popular history of the Christmas to the the United Kingdom and the the United States of America. It was the subject of many adaptations to the radio, the Cinéma and the Télévision. The character of Ebenezer Scrooge inspired Walt Disney for the creation of Balthazar Picsou ( Scrooge McDuck in English). This history of Christmas was used also basic for the cartoon Christmas de Mickey .

The televised series Xena, warlike the contain an episode entitled “Winter solstice” whose scenario points out vaguely the tale of Charles Dickens.

There was also the adaptation of the Muppet Show, Christmas at Muppets with the participation of Michael Caine in the role of Scrooge.

In an episode of the televised series Code Quantum , Sam Beckett is opposite with the whims of a frightening business man whom it compares with Scrooge. Hologram Al Calavicci then decides to appear to him so playing the part of the three phantoms and thus making it change.

In the televised series At the White House , the porteparole of the president Jed Bartlet, CJ Cregg, is compared with Ebenezer Scrooge because it missed the distribution of the gifts.

In 2008, a new film adaptation should be the fruit of Robert Zemeckis ( Retour towards the future I, II and III; Only in the world etc…) who for the occasion will find all his actors fetishes: Tom Hanks, Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lord, Bob Hoskins ( Super Mario Bros , Which wants the skin of Roger Rabbit? )
