Montesson

Montesson is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

The inhabitants are the Montessonnais .

Geography

Montesson is located in Yvelines at 10 km at the west of Paris in a loop of the the Seine, on Right Bank of the river. Its territory is consisted a fertile alluvial plain devoted long time to the market gardenings.

During the urbanization of the district of the center, the river which took its source on the level of the current public library - and where the horses came to water themselves - was channeled and buried. This small underground river - which always exists, testifies to them the good health to the trees of certain residences located street Henri Richaume and the problems of foundations of other residences of this same street - throws itself in the Seine.

The communes bordering are Chatou, Vésinet and Pecq in the south, Sartrouville in north and the Career-on-Seine in the east. Towards the west, the Seine separates Montesson from the Mesnil-the-King.

The residential areas are divided into three definitely separate districts:

  • the district of the center, site of the historical village, bordering on Chatou,
  • Rabaux, bordering on Pecq,
  • and Borders it, in edge of the Seine, bordering on Sartrouville.
These districts are separated by a central agricultural zone, devoted to the Maraîchage, which still covers a major part of the territory of this commune however located near Paris and of Defense.

The highway A14 crosses the commune, which accommodates the single turn pike of this highway, but is served, (not more than the common neighbors), no exchanger not having been established between Defense and Orgeval. Reason of the non-attendance of the exchanger and fear of the town councilors of a too strong increase in circulation in an already saturated zone (the passages of the bridge of the pecq of house-laffite and Chatou are impracticable in full hours). Nevertheless, a project exists, and implies the creation of a secondary road skirting the highway and supposed to unchoke the zone.

Concerning public transport, the commune is served by drunk (network drunk in the Seine) (coming in particular from the Gare S the RER of Vésinet and Pecq, Coals or Sartrouville).

History

The name of Montesson comes from the Latin Mons tuxus , the mount of the lord.

Montesson was set up in autonomous parish, separated from Chatou, in XIIIe century.

In 1875, the creation of the commune of the Vésinet cuts down Montesson by part of its territory.

In the Years 1920, the urbanization develops in the form of Lotissement S in the district of Borde, close to Sartrouville.

In 1996 is brought into service the highway A14 which crosses the plain of Montesson in all its length, benefitting from this convenient perforated in the urbanization, and crosses the Seine by a Viaduc of 500 meters.

Historical events

Traian Vuia, inventive Rumanian, realizer of the mechanical flight, was the first man to succeed in being detached from the ground with an apparatus heavier than the air (Aérodyne), designed thanks to its clean inventivité.
It tested its Avion on the plain of Montesson. Vuia carried out the historical flight of the March 18th 1906, where after an acceleration on 50 meters, it took off 1 meter from height over a length of approximately 12 meters. It thus proved with the whole world that the mechanical flight was possible.

Economy

The district of Borde gathers the principal trade, in particular immense the Shopping mall Carrefour and the neighborhoods include/understand various specialized stores (Decathlon, Gémo, the Market with the Shoes, Picard Frozen…). Montesson has in its center one of most brilliant SME of sector BTP of island-of-France: the company Demolitions W.Perreault SAS.

The district expensive (m ²/€) is that of Rabaux followed by Laborde and finally of the center.

Culture

  • the festival of Pie to the Carmen, has been held during second about fifteen September for 136 years (brass band, ravelled tanks).
  • For a few years one has noted a certain gentrification of the city, indeed the middle-class families emigrants of Paris find in Montesson an ideal place to settle. Montesson embourgeoise with the manner of the vésinet in the Sixties.

Monuments

  • Notre-Dame Church: church built in XIIe century then destroyed during the One hundred Year old War and rebuilt at the XVIIe century. It is devoted to Notre-Dame in 1681. The frontage was restored in 1886.
