Montbeliard

Montbeliard (in Inhabitant of Franche-Comté: Monbyai ) is a common French, located in the department of the Doubs and the area Franche-Comté. The inhabitants of Montbeliard are officially called the Montbéliardais , but have the nickname of " Trissus" following the gastric disturbances caused by consumption, at the last centuries, of tart wine manufactured starting from the vines pushing on the hills of the country.

Geography

Montbeliard, city of the east of France is located in the North-East of the Franche-Comté, in the Belfort Gap. It is center of a Agglomération of 113.059 inhabitants and, with his close relation neighbor Belfort, the largest form urban Aire of the area with 285  026 inhabitants.

History

The first hard copy of the city ( Montem Billiardae ) date of 935; it is then about an small group of dwellings located on a strengthened rock overhanging the confluence of Allan and Lizaine, which is given by the emperor to Louis de Scarpone in 1042.

4 important dates for the County:

  • In 1283: Stamping from the County and its inhabitants, the city is set up in commune with the principles of a Republic, controlled by 9 middle-class men elected with the vote for all, and this 510 years before the union with France.
  • In 1397, Henriette d' Orbe receives the county of Montbeliard in heritage. It Marie in 1407 with Eberhardt IV of Wurtemberg, young prince of the Germanic Empire. County in the beginning, the country will be high in 1495 in Principauté independent under the authority of the dukes of Wurtemberg, small Protestant enclave in a catholic area. Its German name is Mömpelgard .
  • In 1524, establishment of the Reform which tightens with moraliser manners of the catholic mediums and to open the country with Protestantism.
  • 1793 : The revolutionary ideas led to the fastening of the principality to the French Republic in 1793 (Envoy by Convention on October 10th, 1793, Bernard the Holy ones with its army, takes possession of Montbeliard peacefully and replaces the old institutions by the French institutions). It will form initially part of the department of the Haute-Saône, then of that of the Mount-Terrible in 1797, of the Haut-Rhin in 1800 and finally of the Doubs in 1816. Montbeliard replaces then Saint-Hippolyte like Sous-préfecture.
