Monoculture

In Agriculture, the monoculture is the culture of only one Espèce of Plante (the monoculture of the Riz, of the Tabac, the Vigne,…). This concept is opposed to the Polyculture. It can apply either to a Parcelle, or with a whole of Parcelles on the level of a Farm, even of an area.

Monoculture is a particular case of farming Succession, which is generally not recommended on the agronomic level. Indeed, the return of very the Culture on same the Parcelle S several Année S of continuation can involve negative effects in consequence of exhaustion of some nutritive elements of the ground and by the excessive development of certain enemies of the cultures (parasite S, Ravageur S, Maladie S…).

Monoculture can also be an embarrassment for the biodiversity, if a selected species is developed in too large quantities it can disturb an ecosystem.
