In the Greek Mythology, Momos or Momus (in Greek old Μῶμος / Mõmos , “the mocking remark” and in Latin Momus ) is a minor Greek divinity. He is a son of Nyx (the Night) which she only generated or with Érèbe (Darkness) and is thus the brother of Moros, of the Kères and Thanatos (three personifications of Dead). Personification of the Sarcastic remark and the Mockery, it is him, the god of the mocking remark, malicious criticisms and the witty remarks.
It acts like the “buffoon of court” of the Gods of Olympe. It is him which suggests with Zeus, to reduce the growing number of the men which starts to worry it, to give Thétis in marriage to a mortal and to generate beautiful the Helene, alluring it stake of the Trojan War.
But after having scoffed all the Gods, finally one requested it to go follier elsewhere, and it settled in only God able to include/understand it: Dionysos.
