Mohel
The mohel (Hebrew מוהל, mohelim in the plural) is the function of that which carries out the Brit milah according to the Jewish tradition, i.e. the ritual Circoncision of a male child at the eighth day after its birth.
Functions
In the modern Judaism, the circumcision is carried out by a professional, specialized mohel and having a perfect knowledge of the procedure and ritual.
Bibliquement, the command of the circumcision is addressed to the father of the child himself. However, the majority of the Jewish fathers prefer to delegate the execution to the mohel.
There exists a habit for the mohels to carry out their first circumcision on their own son if that is possible, under the direction of their " formateur".
The movements reformists form and accredit also mohelim which can even be doctors of profession.
