Mogadiscio ( Muqdisho in Somali, مقديشو ( Maqadīshū ) in Arab) is more the big city and the Capitale of the Somalia, on the Indian Ocean, its population is of 1.219.000 inhabitants (however, because of the unstable situation of the city, the estimates of its population vary from 1,5 to 3 million inhabitants).

Since 1991 and the civil war in Somalia, Mogadiscio knew 15 years of engagements between rival militia.

The Union of the Islamic courts took control in June 2006 of it.

History

The existence of Mogadiscio is attested as of the 8th century. She is regarded as the most septentrional city of the cultural surface swahilie. This city is one of the rare cities of the coast of the East Africa not to be subjected by the Portuguese to the 16th century. Starting from 1871, it is submitted to the sultan of Zanzibar and Oman. From 1892 and until in 1936, the city is the capital of the Italian Somalia. Following the Second world war, the Britanniques occupy the city until in 1952, date on which Italian protectorate begins again. The Somalia becomes independent in 1960 and Mogadiscio is devoted there capital.
