Meslan
Meslan is a common French, located in the department of the Morbihan and the area Brittany. Its inhabitants name the Meslannais and the Meslannaises .
Etymology
The name of Meslan comes from Melan Saint or Saint Melaine bishop of Rennes from 505 to 530.
Geography
The commune of Meslan is bordered in the west by the river It. It is used as natural border with the communes bordering on Faouët, Lanvénégen and Querrien. The other communes bordering have as a name Guilligomarc' H, Bern and Priziac. She is traversed by the rivers of Noguette and the river of Tanguy Bridge. The communal borough is excentré in the east and is distant borough close to Bern only of 3 km. The village of Bonijard constitutes the most important agglomeration after the Borough. The Bocage almost entirely disappeared following the Remembrement in the Seventies. The commune on the other hand has many sectors timbered in particular in the South in the surroundings of Boblaye. It is crossed on both sides by the axis Lorient-Gourin (D769).
History
Under the old mode Meslan was the seat of a Viscount who was attached to the baronnie of Faouët. The principal lords of the parish were De Stanghingant who resided at XVe and 16th century in their manor of Restinois. Their weapons were " mouths with the saltire of argent". To the XVIIe century, the seigniory passed by alliance to the Jeguic family. This commune is quoted for an event to the Pardon of Saint-Urlo in Lanvénégen during the Révolte of the Red Bonnets.
