Religious heritage

Right from the start, in XIIe century, the abbey of Melleray, like that of Cîteaux, was recognized for the quality of its copyists who ensured the safeguard and the transmission of the culture. The libraries of the monasteries thus preserve a vast inheritance spiritual, made up of Antiphonaire S (collections of liturgical songs) and other enluminés works. The 23 monks Cistercien S who occupied Melleray, in 1998, perpetuated this tradition by animating a workshop of graphic arts.
