Meersburg
Meersburg is a small town of Germany of Bade-Wurtemberg located at the edge of the Lac of Constancy which is famous for its castle. It counts approximately 6000 inhabitants.
Geography
Meersburg is located between Friedrichshafen and Überlingen, on the northern coast of the lake of Constancy, at the point of intersection of two parts of the lake: Obersee and Überlinger See. It is opposite Constance.
History
The name of the city comes from two of its important components: Meer , the lake which borders it and Burg , the strong castle which is built there. The Burg builds above the low part of the city, according to an old legend and a tradition of 1548, would have been built with the VIIe century by the king mérovingien Dagobert Ier.Above, in the high part of the city, the Neue Schloss , the new castle is, of time Baroque. Until the Secularization, the Burg and the Neue Schloss were the property of évêché of Constancy.
The commune obtained the free statute of city in 1299, but continued to belong to évêché of Constancy, of which it constituted the town of residence after the Réforme, when the town of Constancy converts with the Protestantisme. After the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the town of Meersburg was attached, like the whole of évêché, with the Land of Bade.
After the Meersburg Second world war was included/understood during a few years in the French military zone in Germany.
Economy
Meersburg is famous for its vine growing and its Tourisme because of the soft climate which reigns there, under the influence of the lake of Constancy. One cultivates there the white wines (Mueller Thurgau), rosy (Weissherbst) and reds (Spaetburgunder).
Transport
Bundesstrasse B 31 (which prolongue the trunk road NR 415 coming from Neuf-Brisach) carries out of Breisach to Freiburg and after Meersburg key and carries out towards l´Autriche close to Lindau. It is necessary to leave this road by taking B 33 towards Meersburg Center Town or the vat for Constancy. All the historical city is reserved to the pedestrians. The low districts at the edge of the lake of Constancy and the high city of Meersburg are associated by two staircases and a street for the pedestrians (" Steigstrasse") who go up considerably.
Culture and monuments
Meersburg is located on the High-Souabe road baroque of . The style of the old city was thus influenced considerably by the Counter-Reformation. The city however preserved a district of the Middle Ages including two doors and vestiges of the wall d´enceinte.One of the routes of the way of St Jacques de Compostelle passes by Meersburg to lead then to Constance.
Points of view
Terrace of the New Castle ( Neues Schloss ) one has a superb sight on the lake and sometimes to the Alps.Walk at the edge of the lake ( Seepromenade ) in the low districts one can admire the sometimes unchained lake.

Famous characters
The city also gives a price of Poésie each year in the honor of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff which lived and died in the strong castle of Meersburg. It had also a refuge called Fürstenhäusle in which a museum in its honor is.
Franz Anton Mesmer is the famous doctor of XVIIIième century which cured by laying on of hands. He also lived in Paris, places Vendome, but died in Meersburg in 1815. Its tomb is with the cemetery of Meersburg approximately 0,5 km in the North-East of the high city ( Oberstadt ). See l´image tomb hereafter.
