Mediterranean plays

The plays Méditerranéens are a Compétition multisports where sportsmen of the country bordering meet the Mediterranean. They currently gather 21 country and are organized by the International committee of the plays Méditerranéens.

In 1948, at the time of the Olympic Games of London, several committees of Mediterranean countries thought of the idea of the Égyptien Taher Pasha of one competition on a their area scale.

The logo of these Plays are three rings blue sky or white on blue bottom sky, and whose bottom undulates as if they were reflected in water of the the Mediterranean.

In spite of their regularity, the Méditerranéens plays are relatively little known general public. In 1993, the France and the area Languedoc-Roussillon made a great promotion to make known them: construction of sporting installations, emission of a commemorative part of 20 francs.

Africa

Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia.

Asia

Lebanon, Syria, Turkey.

For political reasons and the threat of boycott of the Moslem countries, Israel cannot take part in this sporting event.

Europe

Albania, Bosnia-Herzégovine, Cyprus, Croatia, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, Serbia-Montenegro, Slovenia.

The Yugoslavia took part in the plays before being gradually replaced by the countries which of it result.
