Mauronte

Mauronte , Maurontus gold Maurontius (front 720-ap.739)

Duke or Patrice of Provence in the first years of the 8th century, it is primarily known to have organized between 735 and 739, twenty years after the Patrice Antenor, a rebellion against Charles Martel and the Patrice of Provence Abbon.

Biography

Mauronte appears in the Chronique of Frédégaire like duke. It is according to any probability relative of the mayor of the palate Waratton. From this date one loses the trace of Mauronte. However one half-century later, appears a bishop of Marseilles called him also Mauronte without it being known if there exists or not family ties between the two.
