Maurice Bayrou

Maurice Bayrou is a French politician born the March 2nd 1905 with Lanta (Haute-Garonne) and died the December 29th 1996 with Lamorlaye (Oise), Vétérinaire of profession.

Biography

The August 29th 1940, it takes part in the rallying of the Oubangui-Chari, where he was inspector of the service of breeding, to the free France. It engages in the 2nd battalion of walk of the French equatorial Africa (AEF), combat in Syria, then in Egypt and Libya (battles of Bir Hakeim). Seriously wounded, he is hospitalized, then begins again in 1943 a command in equatorial Africa. He takes part in liquidations of the last German pockets in 1944-45. Its action during the war will be worth to him to be made Compagnon of the Release, to receive the Médaille of Resistance with rivet washer, the Military Cross 1939-1945 (three quotations), the colonial Médaille, the badge of wounded and the Syrian merit.

In 1945, he becomes general inspector of the service of breeding in AEF.

He leaves this station in 1946 and becomes appointed gaullist of Means-Congo and Gabon. Maurice Bayrou is made lawyer of colonial matter conservatism, following the example other executives of RPF and in particular those of Africa. For example, he criticizes highly François Mitterrand, Minister of France of overseas of 1950 to 1951, and preaches the maintenance of the double electoral college (for the colonists, for the Africans).

He is re-elected until 1959, year when he becomes senator de Paris and regular judge with the High Court of justice. Vice-president of the Senate of October 1965 in October 1968, he remains senator until 1977.
