Masseret

Masseret (in Occitan Farmhouse Seren ) is a common French, located in the department of the Corrèze and the area the Limousin. Its inhabitants are named Masserétois and Masserétoises.

Geography

The borough is located on a hill dominating the collar allowing the passage between the Top and the Low Limousin. The river Auvézère takes its source on the commune.

Historic buildings and other sites

  • the church Holy-Catherine . Built in XIIe century, it was altered for the last time in 1969 with the replacement of the bell-tower out of wooden by a bell-tower wall.

  • the tower of orientation . Although of moyenâgeux aspect, the tower of Masseret was built in 1954 and is used as water tower. It is with the site of the old feudal castle which, the top of the hill made it possible to supervise the passages between Limoges and Brive. Before the construction of the tower, a majestic beech, planted in the neighborhoods of 1792 recalled the old castle symbolically. It was struck down on February 4th, 1946.
  • the foirail . The fairground, of a surface of 3 hectares accommodated as of 1292 of the fairs, considered as being most important of the area. Since 1942, the foirail is registered like natural site.
  • the castle of Rabaud (private) . Built at the beginning of XVIe century, this castle has a tower centered on its frontage.
  • the feudal mound of Renaudie . With the Middle Ages, this mound castrale was used to supervise the passages between the Top and the Low Limousin. It is integrated today and development within area Porte the rest of Corrèze on the highway 20.
