Martinière

Martinière is a publishing company French which was created in 1992 by Herve of Martinière. 260 M € of annual Turnover it takes into account among the most important groups of edition S French. Present in France, Germany and in the United States, it developed by successive acquisitions.

Creation of the editions Martinière

After 20 years spent in the edition whose 15 at Hatchet, Herve of Martinière creates the editions which bear its name in 1992. Since 1993 it repurchases the Swiss publisher Minerva. In 1995, the editions of Martinière obtain their own tool for diffusion Diff Edit. Come then creation from the Manise Editions and Martinière Jeunesse.

Expansion

The year 1997 sees the repurchase of the house New Yorkaise Abrams which with 350 M of francs weighs the double of the Editions of Martinière. This acquisition is allowed thanks to the entry the capital of the brothers Wertheimer, owners of Chanel and the Bourjois cosmetics. Acquisitions and creations continue: Sorb, Aubanel, worthy house of Provence, Knesebeck in Germany, Stewart, Tabori&Chang in the USA, Hermé, book publisher of voyages, Edlm Texts, Emmanuel Proust, cartoon, Delachaux&Niestlé, natural specialist in the guides. In 1999 the Editions of Martinière leave their large best-seller: " Earth Seen of Ciel" of Yann Arthus-Bertrand which will run out with more than 3 million specimens in 21 country. In 2001 they are the " Cakes of Sophie" of Sophie Dudemaine of which 1 M of specimens was sold, exceptional figure for a book of kitchen.

The repurchase of the Threshold

The year 2004 is decisive: in January Martinière announces the repurchase of the Seuil, a publisher of which the turnover once again more important than it his. The new group, named Group Martinière, has for president Herve of Martinière and a vice-president Claude Cherki. Following the resignation of this last in June 2004, the group calls upon Olivier Cohen as a literary director of the Threshold. In June 2005, Herve of Martinière takes the orders of the repurchased house definitively one year before while becoming President of the Threshold.

In November 2005, the group announces the arrival of Laure Adler in the capacity as person in charge of the literary sector of the Threshold. Olivier Cohen takes again to the reins of his house Olivier. Points, subsidiary pocket of the Threshold becomes an editor with whole share. The group continues its policy of growth: the editor Public menace has just joined it, as well as the editions Gradually. Following the arrival of Denis Jeambar, old directing of the drafting of the Express train, in the capacity as DG of the Threshold, Laure Adler is laid off.

Volumen, service of distribution

Volumen is the structure born of fusion into 2004 of Threshold Distribution and Diff' Edit. Following the problems known by the distribution in autumn 2004, Christian Bourgois, Liana Lévi, Midnight and Jose Corti brought legal actions which showed arrangements by amicable agreement. Odile Jacob, Payot-Shores and the School of the Leisures preferred to change diffuser.
