Martin Bucer
Martin Bucer (1491 - 1551), reforming theologist and born with Sélestat. It was initially Dominicain. After having studied during 10 years the scholastic Thomiste and in being remained disappointed, Bucer adopted the program of Érasme which wanted to renew the Christianisme by the return to its sources and the simplification of the institutions, the doctrines, and the rites. But it is with Luther that it owed the renewal of all its spiritual life. It left its convent in 1521, Maria, preached the reform and exerted 20 years with Strasbourg dual employment of minister and professor of Théologie.
It always returned in Luther after some eclipses of their friendship and in spite of important theological dissensions. That did not prevent it from accommodating the suggestions of Zwingli and Œcolampade, to also want to take account of criticisms justified of the " sectaires" , to support the creation of a School where one would respect and teach with Christians, with the languages, the wisdom of the Antiquité; finally to take part honestly in conferences where one would seek the possibilities of agreement with the Catholic church that he considered, despite everything his failures, like guardian of real Christian values. It contibua with the trève which was concluded between the partisans from Luther and those from Zwingli following the conferences from Marbourg in 1529, like with the agreement of Wittenberg in 1536. It went in 1545 in England, and professed theology with Cambridge until its death. It was shown then favorable to the hierarchy Anglicane. Its prinicipal work is a Explication of the psalms , Strasbourg, 1529.
