Marnaval
Marnaval is a district of the town of Saint-Dizier, like Gigny and the Valley.
Etymology
Marnaval would mean “ valley (valley) of the Marne ” or “ downstream from the Marne ”.
Geography
Marnaval is a common located close to Saint-Dizier.Il is located at 4 km at the south of this city, on the Trunk road 67, near a water fall on the Marne.
History

Marnaval has the only church in France entirely made out of slag brick May 4th, 1894: Pose first stone of the Church of Marnaval. and on May 30th, 1895: End of the construction of the Church and Blessing of this one " Not stone, but of the laitier" , that one even manufactures in Marnaval, and who consists in dust of filth and hydraulic lime, that one mixes with water; one runs in special moulds and one cooks this matter like one makes tile and the brick. The slag, thus dried, obtains the hardness of the rock. The mason does not have anything to cut, it has only to pose these large bricks colors " white-gris" , very of equal forms. All its slag bricks were made per million in the brickyard of the factory and were carried out by the workmen of Marnaval. . Coal was one of the richnesses of Marnaval, known for its blast furnaces along the channel.Today, the blast furnaces fell but the church holds always good. One can see it while passing on the Viaduc of Marnaval while coming from Nancy in direction of Paris.
