Marly-Gomont

Marly-Gomont is a common French, located in the department of the Aisne and the area Picardy. Its inhabitants are called Marlysiens or Marlygiens.

Geography

Marly-Gomont is located at the east of Guise, on the secondary road D 31, halfway between this city and Étréaupont. The current village was made up in the beginning of two localities, Marly (most important) and, being next to perfectly this one by south-west, Gomont.

This village is installed in the middle of a green valley on left bank of the Oise on the slope of a hill.

History

The beginning of the history of the village is estimated about the year 1100. The village names then Marley. In 1464, one finds the Marli C-W communication, then Marly. The localities dependant on Marly were Béchaué and Gomont of which second ended up amalgamating with Marly. Between 1100 and 1700, the grounds are directed by the lord of Marly which depends then on the Duché of Own way. In 2006, the village is made known by the Rap fear Kamini.

Places and monuments

The owner of Marly-Gomont is holy Remi. As in much of villages of this sector, the population of Marly could, in the event of attack, to shelter in her strengthened church. This one underwent many modifications during its history. The frontage dates from 13th or 14th century, the Nef having certainly been added later. It is mainly out of sandstone, the gate is in tierce point and one notes many loopholes located at breast height along the oldest parts.

One also finds in the village the ruin of an old water mill and the old vault of Gomont.

Kamini

Kamini, rappor, author and interprets song Marly-Gomont . In this song, Kamini reports on a rather humorous tone the rural life of a black family in a Picardy small village, and its problems with the ambient mocking remarks - but also the more general difficulties of the young people of the rural world. The video clip diffused on Internet met an enormous success with the autumn 2006 and propelled Kamini on many media to France and abroad. For the anecdote, the national notoriety of Marly-Gomont involved the flight of the three panels of the common in January 2007.
