The husbands Maritie (December 12th 1921 - November 23rd 2002) and Gilbert (March 20th 1920 - September 18th 2000) Carpentier were producers of broadcast shows of variety then televised very famous in France of the Années 1950 with the Années 1990.

Radio and music

Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier started by carrying out the many ones and famous radio programs in their youth, on Radio Luxembourg (who will become later RTL).

In 1957, they created together the series of the discs of Babar. Maritie Carpentier adapted the texts of Jean de Brunhoff and directed the actors (among whom François Périer and Jean Desailly), while Gilbert Carpentier composed the musics and directed the musicians. These works were rewarded for the Grand Prix of the Disc of the Académie Charles-Cross-country race.

Television

To leaving the years 1960, Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier turn to the Télévision by initially creating many emissions in direct with their friends Roger Pierre and Jean-Marc Thibault. Later, other artists join them, among whom Jean Poiret, Michel Serrault, Jacqueline Maillan or Jean-Claude Brialy.

Until in the years 1980, they will conceive many other variety programmes, which contribute for much to the popularity of artists such Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin, Charles Aznavour, Sacha Distel, Claude François, Chantal Goya, Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan, Mireille Mathieu, Thierry the Lad, Eddy Mitchell, Dalida, Alain Souchon or Joe Dassin, among others.

Some their television programs joined together each week more than 15 million televiewers in front of the small screen and were diffused in 20 countries throughout the world.

Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier mark their creations by unexpected duets artists, their capacity to make sing actors or to make play the comedy with singers, the creation of different decorations each week, or even the scenarisation of their emissions, which became thus stories around an artist. Lastly, the emissions of Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier were often turned in direct and always freed themselves from the promotion of the topicality of the invited artist, who took part in it then with complete freedom.

Gilbert Carpentier dealt with the technique and the decorations, while his wife Maritie Carpentier, sometimes called the " nanny of the artistes" , dealt with the artistic part.

Anecdotes

  • the couple was rewarded for a Seven of gold for the whole of its career, and received in 1980 the Emmy Award of the " better emission étrangère" in the United States, regarded as the highest distinction of the profession.
  • Gilbert Carpentier , former student of the Conservatory of Paris, was also Pianiste, Organiste and Compositeur. He is also the grandson of the inventor Jules Carpentier (manufacturer, with the Frères Light, of the first camera of cinema) and of the French acoustics expert Gustave Lyon (inventive several musical instruments and former director of the House Pleyel).

  • Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier is in addition the title of a Resumption of negotiations song of the album of Bénabar (2005).
