Marion Bartoli (born the October 2nd 1984 with the Puy-en-Velay, Auvergne) is a French player of Tennis , Professionnel since 2000.

Finalist into simple with Wimbledon in July 2007, it reaches the August 27th the world signal 10 of the classification WTA then, on September 10th, becomes number one Frenchwoman.

Style of play

Marion Bartoli is initiated with tennis at six years per his/her father, Walter, doctor of profession which is not long in stopping its activity to be devoted full-time to the career of his/her daughter.

Equipped with a particularly atypical style of play, it surprises the specialists in tennis immediately, in particular by its catch of racket with two hands on the two sides (technique directly inspired by Monica Seles), its very advanced position in return of service (small, it was involved in a room without retreat behind the basic line of short) or its engagement (carried out the feet togethers according to a movement of beam).

Career

2000 - 2005

Finalist with championships of Europe junior and champion by France by 15-16 years in 2000 (year when it becomes Professionnel it), Marion Bartoli takes down the following year its first victories over the circuit ITF and is essential on the US Open junior.

In 2002, the organizers of the Open of Australia offer to him a wild card ; for its first participation in the principal table of a test of the Large Slam, it loses with the first turn at the end of a match tightened vis-a-vis Tina Pisnik. It takes part for the first time of its career in all the tournaments of the Large Slam of the season, passing a turn with Roland-Garros. It is semi-finalist with Canberra, quarter of finalist with Miami, Strasbourg and Quebec. It is illustrated also particularly into double ladies, speciality in which it disputes two finales and six semi-finals, in particular with US Open (partner with Myriam Casanova). At the end the season, Marion Bartoli is firmly fixed on the 57e world rank.

In 2004, semi-finalist with Auckland and Hyderâbâd, the results of Bartoli prove nevertheless rather irregular (21 eliminations with 1st or 2nd turn). It is into double ladies that it carries out its best performances: with Emilie Loit, in particular, it removes the Grand Prix of Morocco in April and reaches the quarterfinals to Indian Wells and Wimbledon. In the absence of Amélie Mauresmo and of Mary Pierce, it is called in November by Guy Forget within the team of France of Fed Cup: if, with Loit, it contributes to the success of its team in half against Spain, it does not prevent the triumph of the Russians to the conclusion.

In January 2005, it reaches the semi-finals with Auckland then with the quarters with Canberra - in addition to a success into double ladies with Pattaya with Anna-Lena Groenefeld. This good departure is then wasted by a wound in spring which prevents it from playing any April and May almost. Briefly 27e world, thanks to a quarter with Eastbourne in June, it qualifies once again for the 3rd turn with the US Open. It finishes 2005 with the 40e place with the WTA, one of better than the previous year.

Season 2006

After an excellent beginning of the season which sees it taking down its first title into simple on the circuit WTA, with the Classic d' Auckland vis-a-vis Vera Zvonareva finally, the following weeks prove more difficult for Marion Bartoli. Paining to connect the victories, it is essential only into double ladies on Prague in May, at the sides of Shahar Peer. In each of the first three tests of the Large Slam, it loses with the 2nd turn. To the US Open, it passes one moreover from there, eliminated in three handles by the 8th world Patty Schnyder.

As from September, it engages in a profitable Asian round : finalist with the International of Bali, it gains the Open of Japan then, in Canada, the Tournoi of Quebec.

In spite of its relative irregularity, Marion Bartoli concludes the year 2006 with the 17th rank from classification WTA, that is to say a jump of twenty places compared to January. It is second best world Française behind Amélie Mauresmo.

Season 2007

Not managing to gain more than two consecutive matches, except with the Open of Indian Wells (4th turn), Marion Bartoli carries out poor starts season. Gone down again beyond the 20th world place, its alarm clock sounds in May when begins the European round on beaten ground. Finalist with the Open of Prague (overcome by Akiko Morigami, 60e) then semi-finalist with the International of Strasbourg (demolished tight against Amélie Mauresmo), it carries out a pretty course with Roland-Garros while qualifying himself for the eighth; but, wounded with the quadriceps in the course of meeting, it cannot defend all its chances vis-a-vis Serb the Jelena Janković (5th world) which dispatches it in two dry sets (6-1, 6-1).

Profiting then from the abandonment of her Serena sister, it is parachuted in yellow hen of the competition. She catches up with herself then by gaining her ultimate match vis-a-vis Jelena Janković (6-1, 1-0, abandonment).

With a total of 47 matches gained for 31 defeats and although not having added any tournament to its prize list, Marion Bartoli carries out the best season of its career, that she concludes in the 10th world place.
