Artist, but especially theorist of art, the Dominican Père Marie Alain Couturier (1897 - 1954) was one of the main actors of the revival of the Sacred art in France.

Former student of Maurice Denis, of which it had integrated the Ateliers of sacred art, it will oppose to the old Master a new vision of the art of church. Rather than of the accent puts on the faith of the artists, he preaches to call upon most famous and talented of them whatever their religious practices. Indeed, for him " any true art is sacré".

It is thus to the largest artists of its time than the Father Dressmaker will appeal to decorate the Notre-Dame church with Any Grace of the Plate of ESA: Pierre Bonnard, Fernand Leger, Jean Lurçat, German Richier, Georges Rouault, Jean Bazaine, Henri Matisse, Georges Directs, Jacques Lipchitz and Marc Chagall inter alia.
