Marcus Perperna (consul in -130)

Marcus Perperna was a senator and Roman Consul of the end of the II E which played a big role in Asia.

Valère Maxime says that Marcus Perperna was consul before it was a citizen: indeed, the father of Perperna would have been condemned by the Lex Papia , after the death of his son, because it had wrongfully usurped the rights of a Roman citizen. Perperna was indeed an Etruscan new man of origin, which undoubtedly owed its rise with the family of the Claudii.

In -135, Perperna is Préteur. It then leads the war against the slaves in Sicily, and consequently from the victories which it obtained on them it receives the honor of a Ovation at the time of its return to Rome.

In -130, he is consul. It is sent in Anatolia against Aristonicos, which had demolishes one of the consuls of the previous year. Perperna beats Aristonicos as of the first battle. Then it besieges it in the town of Stratonicée of Caïque, the city ends up going fault of living. Aristonicos is captured and sent to Rome where it is carried out in -129 on order of the senate.

Perperna however did not live to appreciate the Triomphe, which it would have undoubtedly obtained, it died near Pergame at the time of its return towards Rome. The organization of the province of Asia was allocated then to the consul Manius Aquillius.
