Marc-Antoine Charpentier , born with Paris in 1643 and died in Paris the February 24th 1704, is a Compositeur French.

Biography

He goes in Italy to make studies of Peinture, but under the influence of the type-setter Giacomo Carissimi he makes studies of music to Rome.

In 1672, Molière was scrambled with Lully. He proposed in Charpentier to replace this last for the music of his Comedy-ballets with the Th3e4atre Fran1cais. Thus Charpentier composed of the music for the intervals of Circé and Andromède , as well as scenes sung in the Hypochondriac . Molière died in the fourth representation of the Hypochondriac, for whom Charpentier had exceeded itself. The absolute power of Lully at the court did not make it possible Charpentier to give the full measurement of its talents.

With died of Miss de Guise in 1688, Charpentier was employed by the Jésuite S in their Parisian establishments. He becomes Master of music of the Louis-the-Large college, then of the church Saint-Louis, street Saint-Anthony. It is at that time that it composes the major part of its crowned work.

In 1698, Charpentier was named Master of music of the children of the the Ste Chapelle of the Palate.

Its music draws its Substance from a mixture of the French and Italian styles, from which it borrows many elements.

It composed of the works crowned such as Oratorio S, Messe S, Psaume S, a Magnificat. It also composed several operas, of the Sonate S, Prélude S for orchestra, of the instrumental noëls.

Marc-Antoine-carpenter was almost completely forgotten until in 1953, when it was revealed by his Te Deum , of which the orchestral opening is used as code with the Eurovision. It is with Carl de Nys that one owes the redécouverte of this Te Deum, which became also the anthem of the Tournoi of the six nations.

Starting from the Years 1950, the work of Carpenter was thus ressuscitée by Claude Crussard, Guy Lambert, and Jean-Claude Malgoire. Today, half of its work approximately was recorded.

The complete work of Carpenter includes/understands 28 penmanships volumes of its hand, that is to say more than 500 parts which it took care to classify itself. This collection, called Mixtures, is one of the most beautiful whole of manuscripts musical autographs of all times. With its death, its nephews Jacques Edouard and Jacques-François Mathas inherited it. In 1727, Jacques-Edouard sold the whole of the manuscripts with the Royal Bibliothèque. The collection integrated the funds of the National library of France.

Marc-Antoine Charpentier is currently the Compositeur the French baroque most present in disc and with the concert.
